Henry Hudson Bicycle Trail

Monmouth County Bicycle Trails  Hit Counter

75 mile loop starting at Freehold NJ. I made a cue sheet that follows a abandon rail line that is scheduled to become a extension of the Henry Hudson Bicycle Trail from Freehold NJ to Allaire State Park. The Henry Hudson trail now from Atlantic Highland Harbor, (The Hovercraft ferry to lower Manhattan docks here) to Freehold is about 25 miles. The section from Freehold to Allaire State part is 13 miles. From the end of the Edgar Felix Bikeway in Manasquan Follow the ocean drives, or take the fork of the trail that goes to Wall township park. At the third post with a push button to activate a solar power blinking like that alert motorist for crossing, this is Cr. 524. The trail ends as a loop around the fields of the park. East on Cr. 524 brings you to the center of Spring Lake, at Como Lake. Follow the oceans drives north. Look for a cue that avoids all major highways to get to Atlantic Highland and the start of the Henry Hudson Bicycle Trail at www.billcotton.com

Cue sheet above this map is represented by the yellow Tracks point from Freehold to Allaire State park where the 30 year old Edgar Felix Bikeway starts. From there the tracks are on the bike path to Manasquan, doubling back and taking the Wall's township leg to it's end and back to Cr524 and into Spring Lake.

Up the coast on ocean drives or the nearest road to the ocean. These usually have less traffic as they aren't continuous Asbury Park to Long Branch..

Notice the westward direction but on neighborhood  streets  Long Branch to Highland.

The Henry Hudson ends at Gerard and CR 3 follow Track line, Cr. 516, Atlantic Ave, Little St., Cr 516, Park Ave, Orchard St, Banks St. to trail head, small sign. Note two wrong turns looking for the trail.

This map shows the trail current end at Station Rd. Trails users must use Cr. 79 for about 2 miles. Note. A bicycle shop has a path leading to the trail. North on Cr. 79 a few yards will get you back to the shop. After the second traffic light, Cr. 520 look for Quincy Street. Left on  Maplewood Dr Right on Allen for the trailhead..

Back to Freehold. The track leg above Cr. 46 is the parking area. It is behand a large Building on the north side on Cr. 46.

The trail roughly runs along the route of Interstate 195 as part of a proposed greenway across the central section of New Jersey. The trail consists of the following public land segments from east to west):

[edit] Current Trail Status

As of February 2007 the Capital to Coast Trail is incomplete, existing mostly on paper; however on June 16 2006 the initial segment was dedicated with a ribbon cutting ceremony at Allaire State Park where the existing 30+ year old Edgar Felix Bikeway became the first segment.
