Bicycle ride rating System: Philadelphia Standard devised by Bill Cotton.

Rate the rides that you do using the Tested Philadelphia Standards. 

Using this Excel template, local clubs organized  rides were inputted and compared to developed this Philadelphia Standard bicycle ride rating system and calories counter.

This Template uses  mileage and "Elevation Gain" ( Available from Delorme TopoUSA) or reading from Bicycle altimeter. "Altitude gained", this can be used as climbing Elevation in the template. The track log from eMap and other computer can be strip of it negative values, total and used also. The chart is shown below.

Find the local area ride above that you will ride or did ride. Find the column under your average miles per hour. Below in the calories counter, insert total weight of you and bicycle in the box marked "Your Weight", insert the "BillCotton Philadelphia Standard Bicycle Rating System. numbers in the box marked "BillCotton Standard". Leave box marked "Calories Burned" empty and click on "Calculate". Click "Reset" to rate another Ride.

For rides that has not been rated by Bill Cotton with his Philadelphia Standard: Elevation Gain from a TOPO map, GPS or Altimeter can be used. Goto My Five Input Calories Counter You need to input "Elevation Gain", total "Miles Bicycled", "Average MPH" and the weight or you and bicycle "Your Weight".

The Hararford Velo annual ride. And they have one more hilly below.

The blue line on the map above is tracks from the 30 miles that I rode the 2004 ride, 25 in rain. But what's new for me. I turned the track recorder on late, the first four miles are the first four above. I planed to ride the 60 miles but it was raining hard at the 60/30 split.
