Subject: RE: BCP Song, PBC history

Ah, History, Such sweetness. Dr. Pete brought back golden memories. I was a
student of Miji Reoch when she taught biking an a gym class at Temple in the
early 70s. I worked at night and attended school. She wasn't much taller than
5feet and on a class trip from Abington to New Hope, one of the group, a heavy
football team member, knee went out on him. She grab his seat with one hand
and propelled him about 5 miles. Later I met Emerson who invited me to join
PBC. Some how Dr. Pete and I must have met at the Watertower meeting center.
Small world.

Among the more noted members of PBC of recent times would be John and Laurma
Pixton, Emerson Custis on the touring side, Gerry Casale of Hill Cycle Shop on
the promoting side, John Eustice, Bruce Donaghy, Danny Fox, Miji Reoch and Tom
Margivicius on the racing side.

PBC was once both a racing and touring club. In the 80's the touring element
split and formed their oun club, following Emmerson into what is now SCU.
Part of the reason was that the touring arm felt overlooked by the racing arm
in
terms of sponsorship ans support.

IMO, we had a kinder, gentler more "we're all one family" cycling community
before sponsorship became a reality in racing. Just another thing that money
(and in this case, precious little $) has spoiled.

<I just wanted to pass this along to you in case you hadn't seen it.
I think Ed Hein and the crew from SCU that handled this project deserve
a big thank you. Ed did a similar thing last year, pretty much on his
own hook. Jerry Ames, Montco BCDV.
Thanks to Larry and Scott Herman, Joel Gaskin, Rick Gallagher and the folks
at Indian Valley Bikeworks for helping deliver 18 bikes and scooters to the
Neighborhood Bikeworks in West Philly on Saturday. The bikes will wind up in
good hands after a bit of repair and maintenance. I would also like to thank
the club for kicking in $100.00 toward the project. Better than half the
money will go to the Neighborhood Bikeworks as a cash contribution since we
keep our expenses low.
